Healthcare for EU insured in Slovakia

Provision and reimbursement of cross-border healthcare provided in Slovakia to a person insured in another Member State of the European Union

Providing of the cross-border healthcare to insured persons must respect all the rights guaranteed by the Directive and Slovak national law.

The insured person must pay the costs of provided cross-border healthcare directly to the healthcare provider.

The health care provider must set the price of cross-border healthcare in accordance with the law on prices. The price for cross-border health care for a person insured in another Member State of the European Union must be the same as for an insured person from Slovakia.

A healthcare provider shall issue a report for a person insured in another Member State of the European Union on provided healthcare containing the date and time of medical report, the form and content of instructing, any refusal of instructing, informed consent, any refusal of informed consent and revocation of informed consent, the date and time of the provision of healthcare if different from the date and time of medical report, the scope of healthcare and services related to the provision of health care, the results of other examinations provided they are part of the provided healthcare which the report relates, identification of the attending healthcare professional, identification of the person to whom the healthcare was provided, diagnosis of the illness including its code, an invoice giving an itemised list of medical procedures and their price and the prescription for medicine or medical device if needed.

If a person insured in another Member State of the European Union presents at a pharmacy a medical prescription or prescription for medical device issued in another Member State of the European Union and a person does not present an entitlement document in accordance with the coordination regulations, the person authorised to dispense medicines, medical devices and dietetic foods shall dispense the prescribed medicines, medical devices and dietetic foods at full price.
